Chevrolet has been trying hard to make the Malibu the success it used to be before it was discontinued in 1983. So hard that it redesigned the Malibu only half a year after debuting the eight generation model in 2013. Chevy’s mid-size sedan still couldn’t catch up to what its competition was offering so the automaker continued to beat the pavement in hopes of finding success in the mid-size market.

Chevrolet is betting on the completely redesigned 2016 Malibu to propel the automaker back into contention. The next-gen Malibu is sleeker and more grown up than the outgoing model, which looks like a bubbly-cheeked boy with his mouth open waiting for a dose of sugar. I’m willing to believe a designer accidentally flattened the current Malibu in photoshop and everyone in the room liked it.

The entire exterior of the 2016 Malibu is flatter, sleeker, and more mature-looking. Chevrolet means business by giving the Malibu a coupe-like body that has proved success with other luxury brands. The mid-sized sedan finally exudes confidence that is needed to stand out in its competitive segment.
