Volkswagen introduced the Multivan Alltrack Concept at the Geneva Autoshow. The exterior is plain, simple, and boxy, just the way I like it. There isn’t a more functional car design than a sharp-cornered, rectangle on wheels, which has gone the way of the Passenger Pigeon in favour of a more curvaceous body style. Sure, all the cargo and passenger vans are boxy, but there’s nothing sexy about them. And if Nissan tried to make the NV200 sexy, or at least good looking, they failed miserably.

There aren’t many ways you can make a rectangle unique, which is why the VW Multivan screamed Chevy Astro as soon as I saw it. I don’t see many Astro vans on the road anymore but every time I do I wonder why car makers keep cutting the corners. I’ve always preferred form over function, so a big shout out to the VW Multivan’s retro-styling, if I can call it that, that goes all the way back to the early 90s.
