A unique launch party had every car enthusiast sit through almost two hours of a British-style Jaguar history lesson before the big reveal of the 2015 Jaguar XE, the brand’s first entry into the mid-size luxury sedan segment in six years. Although it’s brand new there’s very little ‘new’ about the design of the mid-size luxury sedan. Like most automakers Jaguar has brand identity to upkeep by making all their models share characteristics that can easily be identifiable as Jaguar.
The new Jaguar XE takes its design cues from bigger brother Jaguar XF, which slots above the XE in the full-size luxury sedan segment. Jaguar XE takes over as the smallest, and cheapest sedan in the cat family, a title that was held by the subpar Jaguar X-Type until 2009. Entering a car segment after a five year hiatus is no easy task especially when the competition includes BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes C-Class. Hopefully the XE won’t be plagued with the stigma that the X-Type left behind and buyers will realize it’s a completely different car.
