2017 Ford GT vs. 2007 Ford GT
The biggest surprise at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show came on day one on the Ford stage. Despite rumours about a new Ford GT, the automaker did an excellent job at keeping the supercar a secret. The icing on the cake came when Ford announced that the GT was in production form, slated to go on sale as a 2017 model. The new Ford GT has changed significantly compared to the first generation of 2005.
While the 2005 Ford GT was inspired by, and almost identical to, the Ford GT40 racing car from the 1960s, Ford designers have evolved the iconic design to a more modern style. The taillights are the only feature that resembles the previous model. The overall shape, from the front and rear bumpers to the side profile, is contemporary but allows the 2017 Ford GT to continue the legacy. Only diehard GT fans will notice the subtle similarities between the two models.
Ford engineers combined lightweight materials, such as carbon fiber and aluminum, with a sleek, aerodynamic body, to give the GT improved performance as well as efficiency. This elite offering is a beautiful piece of art that showcases Ford’s innovations and technologies that will inevitably be applied to other Ford models.
