Honda Civic Hatchback History

Debut: 1972
Type: Compact Hatchback
Competitors: Kia Forte5, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai Elantra GT

The hatchback variant of the Civic was the first to debut in 1972, a decade before the automaker introduced a sedan, and 20 years before the coupe came to life. Unfortunately, the Civic hatchback wasn’t as popular in North America as its other two variants. Production was halted in 2000, but a couple of years later the hatchback tried to make a comeback. It lasted for only three years before disappearing from our shores. However, the Civic hatchback continued to evolve in Europe where it was more appreciated. Luckily, Honda rolled out the all-new 2017 Civic hatchback in most countries around the world. The timing is appropriate since competition in the hatchback segment are heating up with many brands introducing their own variants.
