Toyota Avalon History

Toyota Avalon is the automaker’s flagship sedan in North America sitting atop the Camry and Corolla. The first iteration was introduced as a 1995 model with available seating for six passengers. The front bench seat sat three, meaning the gear shifter was in the steering column, something unconventional for Toyota’s of that time. Early generations of the Avalon were called ‘Japanese Buicks’ by Car and Driver, but have since carved their own identity to become one of the leading full-sized sedans on the market. Toyota Avalon goes head to head against the likes of Chevrolet Impala, Ford Taurus, and even mid-premium sedans like Buick LaCrosse and Lincoln MKZ.
