2016 Scion iM vs. Scion iM Concept
Scion created a lot of buzz showing off its sportiest model yet. The Scion iM was essentially a supped up Toyota Auris, and the thought of getting a sports car right out of the box was very enticing. But, Scion did what most automakers do and killed our like a cop car in your rear view mirror. The 2016 Scion iM production model isn’t a supped up Auris, it’s an Auris with a Scion badge.
Killing the excitement for potential buyers is not the way to resurrect a starving brand. If Scion wants to appeal to a younger, hipper audience then the production model should have looked as sporty and cool as the concept. Now, it’s just a hatchback in a hot market that will get overlooked if buyers who aren’t motivated by price.
