Having over 100 engineering and design improvements the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander is more than just a refresh, it’s a refined version of the outgoing model. At least that’s what the Automaker wants you to believe. Mitsubishi has showcased its new design language on concept cars like the XR-PHEV but the new Oultander is the first production vehicle to wear the new digs. It’s not as aggressive as the concept version but it’s a move in the right direction for an automaker that needs an appealing face to bring back much needed interest in the brand.

The exterior of the 2016 Outlander looks different than the current model but the overall silhouette remains the same. This makes the so-called refinement more of a refresh, especially since many design cues linger from the outgoing model. It’s even more evident inside where the layout is almost identical. Most of the 100 improvement that Mitsubishi taunts are internal; you won’t see them but will feel them in the way the SUV handles.

A completely redesigned Outlander that closely resembles the XR-PHEV would have stirred more excitement into the brand. But, as the automaker declares, this is an appealing refinement.
