2016 Acura ILX vs. 2015 Honda Civic Coupe Si
2016 Acura ILX vs. 2015 Acura ILX
It’s a well known fact that the Acura ILX is based on the Honda Civic. The idea was to make the ILX a compact luxury sedan that appealed to a younger, hipper audience that Acura would nurture as their families grew. Since its first iteration Acura has worked hard to separate itself from the Civic both inside and out especially considering the compact luxury segment has tough competitors from Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
So it’s somewhat mind-boggling why Acura would continue to hint that the ILX is a richer Civic. Even the slightest resemblance, like the bottom of the bumper in this instance not only cheapens the brand but makes people, including us, to think Civic instead of Acura. Unless their intention was to hint that the ILX is as sporty as a Civic Coupe Si there’s no real reason why a luxury brand would reuse a design from their sister brand. Seeing as they borrowed the headlights from the all-new Acura TLX they might as well have taken the bumper and kept it in the immediate family.
